6/10/20 G Suite Roundup: Updates That Matter Most

This week’s updates focus on migrating users to Google Chat, streamlining the Admin console, and enhancing mobile collaboration across Docs, Sheets, and Slides.

1. Simplified Migration to Google Chat

  • What’s New: Admins can now switch their entire organization from classic Hangouts to Google Chat at once using the Chat Preferred setting.

  • Why It Matters: Migrating all users simultaneously prevents communication issues—such as missed messages—that happen when teams are split across classic Hangouts and Google Chat.

2. Admin Console UX Improvements

  • API Client Access: Moved to Security > API Controls > Domain-wide Delegation with a clearer layout and added capabilities.

  • G Suite Marketplace Apps (GSM): Updated interface featuring expanded controls, including a “partially approved” status, scope grouping by API buckets, and visible OAuth client IDs.

  • Roles Homepage: Redesigned dashboard allows admins to quickly view system/custom roles and assigned administrators, with quick-action buttons for fast role management.

3. Redesigned Mobile Comments & Actions

  • What’s New: A new interface for comments and action items in Docs, Sheets, and Slides makes remote collaboration faster and more intuitive on mobile devices.

  • Availability: Currently available for Android devices. Enabled automatically with no admin setup required.
