The role
Same work as our full-time FDE role, structured for someone who wants to stay independent. We’re building a bench of contractors we can bring onto specific client engagements as our Anthropic practice ramps.
You’d come in on a defined scope: build this agent system, integrate it with these systems, get it to production, train their team, with a clear SOW, a clear deliverable, and a clear end date. Engagements often lead to follow-on work, but each one stands on its own.
You won’t be improvising the approach. Every engagement runs on our delivery playbooks: phased build plans with a definition of done per phase, evaluation gates before anything reaches a live user, and handoff checklists, all built on Anthropic’s Claude Certified Architect framework. You bring the engineering; the methodology is already on the shelf.
What a typical engagement looks like
- Two weeks of discovery and scoping alongside HiView’s architect: source inventory, retrieval allowlists, and the split between what code decides and what the model writes
- Four to eight weeks of build, in a deliberate order: the deterministic core first, proven in isolation; the eval stood up alongside it as the change gate; then the model-based layer; then fail-closed guardrails and output screening; then the human-approval gate on anything irreversible
- A piloted rollout behind full logging, accuracy, edit rates, and screening blocks, before anything scales
- Two weeks of handoff: documentation, runbooks, and training the client’s team
- Defined checkpoints with HiView and the client at each phase
What we’re looking for
- Demonstrated production experience building agentic systems, you can point to systems currently running
- Strong Python or TypeScript, plus fluency with the Claude Agent SDK and MCP
- Comfort working inside a prescribed methodology, the phase gates and eval bars are our standards
- Prior independent contracting experience. You scope your own work, communicate proactively, and don’t need daily supervision
- Client-facing polish. You’ll be representing HiView on remote calls and possibly during in-person travel
- Availability for at least one engagement per quarter (three-month minimum availability is ideal)
Terms
- You control how and when the work gets done, subject to SOW milestones and client site requirements
- You provide your own equipment, insurance, and tax handling; we issue a 1099
- IP created under each SOW is assigned to HiView or the end client, specified per engagement
- Mutual NDA and a master services agreement before the first engagement
- We do not require exclusivity. Work with whoever else you like, absent a specific conflict
