Google Voice: How to Personalize Your Settings

Curious how you can get even more out of Google Voice? You’re in the right place! Below, we will go over some key ways to maximize what Voice can do for you.

Device management

While it can be useful to receive incoming calls on both your mobile devices and your desktop, you may prefer to limit where you receive your calls. Fortunately, it’s easy to alter this.

  1. Open Voice on your computer.

  2. Click Settings in the top right.

  3. Under “Incoming calls,” toggle the buttons to suit your needs.

Under Call forwarding, you can also select which linked numbers receive forwarded calls.

Audio and notifications

If you have not yet spent much time clicking around on your Google Voice account, you might not yet be aware of the variety of audio settings you can alter to customize your Voice experience. To access this controls, follow the instructions below:

  1. On your computer, open Voice.

  2. Click Settings in the top right.

  3. On the left, click Audio.

You will see a wide variety of options with which to alter your sound settings, including Change your microphone, Test your audio, Change your speakers, and Test your speakers. Experiment with these options so that your settings are configured to your liking.

Blocking numbers

Blocking numbers on Voice is simple. Previous calls and texts will remain in your history, but if the blocked number is used to attempt to call or text you, the caller will here a “Number not in service message.”

To block a number:

  1. Open Voice on your computer.

  2. Click the Settings button in the top right corner.

  3. Select a call or message from the number you want to block.

  4. Click More, then click Block number.

  5. Click Block to confirm.

Additionally, Google Voice offers a way to automatically block known spam callers. To activate this feature, do the following:

  1. Open Voice on your computer.

  2. Click the Settings button in the top right corner.

  3. Click Security in the top left.

  4. Toggle the switch next to Filter spam to on.
