Trejo’s Tacos Consolidates IT Services with Google Cloud

Trejo’s Tacos, a popular Californian restaurant chain founded by actor Danny Trejo, selected a move to G Suite (now called Google Workspace) from GoDaddy in order to improve workplace communication and collaboration. Seeking a smooth and effective transition, the chain’s management selected HiView Solutions as their Google Cloud Partner in January of 2020.

The challenge

As a bustling restaurant chain, Trejo’s Tacos naturally prioritized minimal downtime so they could continue to serve their customer base throughout the transition. Additionally, the restaurant’s busy 7-day open hours meant that wise migration planning by HiView’s team was especially necessary to prevent roadblocks. From the technical side, Trejos had many employees using free Google Accounts for contact/calendaring, which all needed to be consolidated into a managed G Suite Environment.

The approach

Trejos Management opted to deploy G Suite using a one-phase migration, with data migrating via IMAP from GoDaddy over to G Suite. HiView Engineers were able to migrate all historical mail in a few days. For personal accounts, HiView Engineers were able to “account capture” these free Google Accounts and pull all associated data into G Suite. 

For training, a HiView Change Manager held an onsite training event for restaurant managers on the day of the Go-live.

Following the G Suite rollout, HiView helped implement Google Voice for G Suite. With a single Admin Console for Voice + G Suite administration, the move helped Trejo’s further consolidate IT services to a single Cloud vendor.  

The results

• 65 users successfully migrated to Google G Suite
• 1 Domain ownership transitioned
• Removal of legacy mail/calendar/file-storage services in favor of G Suite
• Consolidated IT services to a single Cloud vendor
• Removal of legacy VOIP services in favor of Google Voice
