Get up and running with GCP

Google Cloud Platform is a massive suite of powerful services. To fully reap its benefits, you need a team of experts to help you get up and running. That’s where HiView comes in.

Regular Infrastructure or Managed Services?

We recommend a Managed Services/Serverless approach in which Google provisions framework. This modernized approach is cheaper, easier, and saves time to keep the focus on customization and performance monitoring.

Zero-Trust Security

BeyondCorp is Google’s implementation of the zero-trust security model. Initially an internal Google implementation, the approach combines findings from over a decade of experience at Google with proven best practices from the community. With customized network-level policies, read-to-deploy services such as firewalls, and more, implementing BeyondCorp is a simple yet highly effective way to strengthen security practices.

Scalability

One reason our customers love GCP is its unparalleled scalability. Unlike on-premise alternatives, GCP allows you to pay only for what you use– not any additional bandwidth or hardware. GCP’s vertical and horizontal scalability offers an elastic environment tailored to handle your workload.

Our team tailors the GCP environment setup to each customer’s needs. This means our approach will vary according to the needs of the project. For example, we will determine:

  • When to move which services to GCP
  • “Lift and shift” vs. Application Modernization method
  • What will be handled by Google going forward

Setup and Billing

As part of the move to GCP, HiView engineers help to configure Cloud Identity and IAM roles for access levels, such as permissions for apps to access another resource via service accounts. This is a crucial step, as Google Cloud resources are organized hierarchically. Without HiView, GCP billing can be confusing. The primary model, “pay-as-you-go,” requires important configurations such as setting usage limits. We’ll help you avoid surprises on your bill by creating Cloud Billing budgets to monitor all of your Google Cloud charges in one place. You’ll also be able to track your actual Google Cloud spend against your planned spend and receive email notifications once you’ve hit a predetermined threshold. After you’ve set a budget amount, you set budget alert threshold rules that are used to trigger email notifications. We will also help you use your budget to automate cost-control responses. Altogether, we remove the guesswork from GCP billing.

Performance monitoring

We will introduce you to a variety of tools created by both Google and HiView that make monitoring metrics simpler. You’ll avoid the need to check within services for alerts, or to check metrics such as CPU usage, storage capacity, bandwidth, errors, and more. This can be done by configuring email alerts to administrators, or enabling Google Cloud’s operations suite (formerly Stack Driver) Google Cloud’s operations suite maximizes visibility by combining all dashboards and alerts in one place.

This works using Cloud Monitoring, which collects metrics, metadata, and events from Google Cloud, hosted uptime probes, and application instrumentation. Using the BindPlane service (included with your Google Cloud project at no additional cost), you can also collect this data from over 150 common application components, on-premise systems, and hybrid cloud systems. Google Cloud’s operations suite receives that data and generates insights via dashboards, charts, and alerts.

We offer a variety of packages, including different levels of ongoing monitoring service from HiView if desired. To get started with GCP and determine the ideal monitoring plan for your project, contact us.
